238 years old and still in good shape ! McDaids on Harry Street is a classic little
" boozer ". Another favourite of the literary set, it's most infamous patron was the great man, Brendan Behan who once said " I am a drinker with a writing problem ".It is said that he based some of the characters in "The Hostage" and "Borstal Boy" on publicans he met in McDaids .. hardly surprising ! Other literary patrons where Austin Clarke, JP Donleavy, Paddy Kavanagh and Liam O'Flaherty. Their portraits adorn the walls and I'm sure they're looking down from somewhere wishing they could join us .This is a no frills, no gimmicks pub with lots of character and lots of great characters frequenting it. It was once the City Morgue but believe me there's nothing dead about this wonderful bar !
